According to the Vietnam Beekeepers Association, in 2008, there were 900,000 colonies of bees that have 650,000 Apis Mellifera and 250,000 Apis Cerana. Vietnam is in the top 10 of honey exporter in the world. Beekeeping have created jobs for over two thousand workers, including about 3,000 professional beekeepers scale from 300 to 3000 colonies per person.
Here are the main honey sources of Vietnam:
1. Coffee Honey:
- Harvest Time: December to March next year.
- Production: about 2.000 -3.000 Mts.
- Regions: Dak Lak, Gia Lai, Lam Dong, Dong Nai.
2. Rubber Honey:
- Harvest Time: February - April.
- Production: about 10.000 to 12.000 Mts.
- Regions: Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, Dak Lak, Gia Lai.
3. Litchi Honey:
- Harvest Time: April - May.
- Production: about 300 Mts.
- Regions: Bac Giang, Bac Ninh.
4. Rambutan Honey:
- Harvest Time: April - May.
- Production: approximately 1.000 Mts.
- Regions: Tien Giang, Vinh Long, Dong Nai.
5. Longan Honey:
- Harvest Time: Main Crop: May-June; Secondary crop: October-November.
- Production: approximately 1.000 Mts.
- Regions: Tien Giang, Vinh Long, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Hung Yen.
6. Acacia Honey:
- Harvest Time: May - September.
- Production: about 2.000-3.000 Mts.
- Regions: Dong Nai, Binh Thuan, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Nghe An, Ha Tinh.
7. Malaleuca Honey:
- Harvest Time: July - September.
- Production: approximately 1.000 Mts.
- Regions: Long An, Tien Giang, Vinh Long, Dong Thap.
8. Cashew Honey:
- Harvest Time: November - January next year.
- Production: approximately 3.000 Mts.
- Regions: Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong.
